Mission & Vision

GICA' mission is to provide access to contemporary art in Rwanda and the region and to position the region within global artistic and intellectual conversations. Our vision is to establish Rwanda as a leading hub for contemporary art and critical exchange.

(noun) a legendary figure often regarded as the founding hero and first king of Rwanda, Gihanga is credited in Rwandan mythology and oral tradition with introducing the essential cultural traditions, technologies, and practices that shaped Rwandan society, symbolising the link between historical inheritance and contemporary creation.

The institute's symbol is inspired by the golden crested crown of the Grey Crowned Crane, the emblematic bird native to the Great Lakes region. Our symbol represents artistic vision, awakening, and cultural unity.
