Terms & Conditions

Last Updated: September 2026

These Terms & Conditions govern the use of the Gihanga Institute of Contemporary Art (GICA) website, membership services, programme registrations, and payments made through GICA's online platforms[cite: 2]. By using the GICA website or making a payment through our online services, you agree to these Terms & Conditions[cite: 2].

1. About GICA

Gihanga Institute of Contemporary Art (GICA) is an independent, non-profit contemporary art institute based in Kigali, Rwanda[cite: 2]. GICA operates as a platform for contemporary art, research, dialogue, and critical exchange[cite: 2]. GICA's activities include exhibitions, library and research activities, screenings, performances, workshops, talks, and artist residencies[cite: 2].

2. Membership

GICA membership is an optional programme that provides members with additional opportunities and benefits connected to the Institute's programmes, library, exhibitions, and community activities[cite: 2]. Membership begins on the date of registration and remains active for the period covered by the applicable membership payment[cite: 2].

Membership categories, fees, eligibility requirements, and benefits are communicated through GICA's official membership materials and website[cite: 2]. Where recurring payments are available, members may select an available payment frequency and may cancel future recurring payments before the next scheduled payment[cite: 2].

3. Programme and Event Registration

Certain GICA programmes, workshops, events, or activities may require registration and/or payment[cite: 2]. Where payment is required, registration is confirmed following successful payment or confirmation by GICA, as applicable[cite: 2]. Specific terms relating to individual programmes or events may be communicated at the time of registration[cite: 2].

4. Payments

Payments made through the GICA website may be processed through authorised third-party payment service providers[cite: 2]. Users are responsible for providing accurate information when making a payment[cite: 2]. A transaction is considered successfully completed once confirmation has been received from the applicable payment provider and/or GICA[cite: 2]. GICA does not request users to provide payment credentials through unsecured channels[cite: 2].

5. Recurring Payments

Where recurring payments are offered, the applicable amount and payment frequency will be communicated before the subscription is initiated[cite: 2]. Members may cancel future recurring payments before the next scheduled billing date using the cancellation process made available by GICA[cite: 2].

Cancellation of a recurring payment stops future billings but does not automatically create a refund for a membership period that has already commenced[cite: 2]. Refunds are governed by GICA's Refund & Return Policy[cite: 2].

6. Website Use

Users agree to use the GICA website lawfully and not to[cite: 2]:

  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to GICA's systems[cite: 2];
  • Interfere with the operation or security of the website[cite: 2];
  • Submit false or misleading information[cite: 2]; or
  • Use GICA's online services for unlawful purposes[cite: 2].

7. Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, content published through GICA's website and official materials—including text, photographs, graphics, and archives—is owned by GICA or used with permission from the relevant rights holders[cite: 2]. Such content may not be reproduced or commercially used without appropriate permission[cite: 2].

8. Privacy

GICA processes personal information in accordance with its Privacy Policy and applicable data protection requirements[cite: 2].

9. Changes to These Terms

GICA may update these Terms & Conditions when necessary[cite: 2]. The most recent version will be made available through GICA's official channels[cite: 2].
